The Head at Middleton is surrounded by rolling countryside with
the Yorkshire
Dales National Park just a mile away and the Lake
District National Park within 25 minutes drive. The Yorkshire
Dales is a unique blend of wild fells, pastoral valleys, isolated
settlements and bustling market towns, with a cultural tradition
spanning the centuries. The Lake District National Park is a treasure
of lakes, mountains and streams. We are well situated for guests
to enjoy both of these superb amenities. Closer to home are the
Howgill
fells and Cautley
Spout.
Sedbergh
Just 3 miles away is Sedbergh,
nestling in the foothills of the magnificent Howgill
Fells. Sedbergh is a town full of character with cobbled yards
and fascinating historic houses, many of which bear the hallmarks
of the old knitting and woollen trades which took place in the town.
Market day is Wednesday and there is a good range of shops and eating
houses.
Dent
Dent is set in the beautiful and secluded valley of Dentdale
and retains a feel of the past with its quaint cobbled main street
and colour washed stone cottages. Dentdale boasts its own brewery
and Dent bitter is sold locally. Dent Station, four miles away on
the Settle-Carlisle line is the highest main line station in England.
Kirkby Stephen
The market town of Kirkby
Stephen lies at the top of Mallerstang,
in the gentle Eden
Valley. From the market square there are many narrow winding
passageways, some leading down to the famous Franks Bridge and many
interesting antique and curio shops and tea rooms. Monday is market
day. Ravenstonedale
is nearby where St.Oswald's
church is noted for it's 3-tier pulpit. Newbiggin-on-Lune and
Orton
are villages near to Kirkby Stephen.
Kirkby Lonsdale
Kirkby
Lonsdale is a delightful market town set in the lush
Lune Valley and enjoys an enviable position on the fringes of
both the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks. The town
was granted a charter in the 13th century for fairs and still holds
a Thursday market and annual Victoria Fair in October. A national
winner in Britain in Bloom, the town has an excellent range of speciality
shops, attractive 17th and 18th century inns, and a fine Norman
church.
Yorkshire
Dales
The Head at Middleton is an ideal place to stay to enjoy the facilities
of the nearby Yorkshire
Dales National Park. The Dales offer beautiful scenery and picturesque
villages, rolling hills patterned by dry stone walls, tumbling streams
and rivers.
Lake District
Lake Windermere is approximately a 25 minute drive from The Head
at Middleton with easy access via the M6 to Penrith,
Keswick and
the Northern
Lakes.
Morecambe Bay
The Head at Middleton offers easy access to both Lancaster
and Morecambe
and surrounding towns and villages. The historic city of Lancaster
has a wealth of fine buildings with the Lancaster
Priory and Lancaster
Castle perched on a hill overlooking the city. There is plenty
of good shopping with most major stores in the centre. Morecambe
has beautiful promenade walks and spectacular sunsets with a pleasant
shopping area. A multi-screen cinema, bowling alley and lots of
other attractions are centrally located. Morecambe has a large undercover
market several days every week and is well worth a visit.
